Who we are

geoservices.space is a website that shows the approximate location of the visitor’s device on a map and includes an entertainment simulator. This policy explains what data is processed when you use it. The contact details of whoever is responsible for the site are at the bottom of this page.

What data we collect

We collect this data to make the site work, to measure its use and to measure advertising campaigns:

  • Visit activity: events such as opening, reloading or closing the page, searching for a number in the simulator, viewing or zooming in on the map, opening the payment window, pressing the Buy button or abandoning the payment, together with the type of search you used (browser, IP or simulator), their date and time (and your time zone), your language and your country. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, it is only recorded if you allow it in the cookie notice.
  • Approximate location: only when you perform a search. If you choose Search by IP (or use the simulator, which needs a starting point), your browser sends your IP address to a geolocation service to estimate an approximate location. If you choose Search by Browser and give permission, your device’s location coordinates are used. In all cases the map and our records use a position with a random variation of a few kilometers.
  • Phone number: if you use the simulator, the number you enter is stored together with the visit activity and, for as long as your browser keeps it, also together with that of your subsequent visits. For this reason, do not enter other people’s numbers.
  • Analytics and advertising identifiers: the Google Analytics client identifier and, if you arrive from an ad, the campaign parameters (UTM, gclid or fbclid). In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, they are only used if you allow them in the cookie notice, and the click identifiers (gclid, fbclid) only with the advertising permission.
  • Payments: Stripe collects the payment details directly (also your email address, which we see in the Stripe dashboard), and we do not see or store your full card number. We store the amount and currency of the purchase, and we associate the browser analytics identifier with the payment. The amount, the currency and a transaction identifier are also sent to Google to measure conversions, both from your browser and from the service that receives Stripe notifications.
  • IP address: our server records it in its access logs, as happens on any website. In addition, when the page opens, the server uses it to estimate your country with a local database, without sending it to any third party; that country decides the price shown to you and, if you have not chosen another one, the initial language. The application does not record your IP in its own technical logs.

What we use the data for

To show the map, to choose your language and the price based on your country, to process payments, to measure and improve the service, and to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.

Who we share the data with

To provide the service we use providers that receive part of this data and may process it outside your country (for example, in the United States). The services your browser connects to also receive your IP address and technical data from your browser:

  • Google (Tag Manager, Analytics and Ads): measurement of usage and campaigns, including the amount and currency of purchases, and ad personalization if you accept advertising. Google also receives, on its own, technical data from your browser and the addresses of the pages you visit. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, it is only loaded with your permission. You can see how Google uses the data at business.safety.google/privacy.
  • Stripe: payment processing.
  • OpenStreetMap: loads the maps and, if you use Search by Browser, receives your exact coordinates to determine the country (Nominatim service).
  • GeoJS: receives your IP address, from your browser, only when you choose Search by IP (or use the simulator), to calculate an approximate location. Our server, by contrast, does not send it: it estimates your country with the “IP to Country Lite” database from DB-IP (db-ip.com, Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license), which it queries locally and which does not receive any of your data.
  • Hosting providers: DigitalOcean, where the site runs and the activity log is stored, and Hugging Face, where the service that creates the payment sessions runs, as well as the one that receives Stripe notifications and sends each purchase to Google Analytics.
  • OpenAI: if whoever administers the site uses its internal analysis assistant, the results of its queries on the activity log, which may include phone numbers and identifiers, are processed by that service.

Cookies and local storage

We use two cookies of our own that do not depend on your consent because they are necessary: one that remembers your language for one year (only if you choose a language) and another, called cookie_consent, that remembers your cookie choice for 180 days and contains no personal identifier.

The site detects, from your IP address or from your browser’s time zone, whether you are in the European Economic Area (the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), the United Kingdom or Switzerland. If so, it shows you a cookie notice and does not load Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics or Google Ads, nor store measurement data on your device, until you allow it. You can accept all, reject all or choose by category (analytics and advertising), and change your choice whenever you want using the “Cookie preferences” link at the bottom of every page. If you withdraw a permission, we delete the Google cookies for that category and, if necessary, reload the page.

Outside those regions, Google Analytics and Google Ads create their own cookies as soon as you open the page, without a prior consent notice, to measure usage and campaigns. You can block or delete them from your browser settings.

Your browser also stores data in its local storage to make the page work and to measure its use. In those regions, the measurement data (such as the numbers you used in the simulator with the location assigned to them, the campaign parameters and the status of a payment in progress) is stored only if you allow it; the position of the map you are going to pay for is always stored, for up to 24 hours, to give it back to you when you return from Stripe. You can delete this data from your browser settings.

Data retention

We do not delete the activity logs automatically: we keep them for as long as they remain useful for the purposes described. We store backup copies of the database; the daily ones are replaced over time and some historical files are kept with no expiration date.

Your rights

You can ask to access, rectify or delete your data, or object to its processing, by writing to the contact listed below. To find your records we need the phone number you used in the simulator or your browser’s analytics identifier (the Google Analytics _ga cookie), because we do not store your name or your email in them. Deletion applies to the active database; backup copies are replaced over time, and historical files are only modified upon express request. If you are in the European Union, you can also file a complaint with your data protection authority.

Changes

We will update this page when the processing of the data changes.
